Using IDEA Quicklists Instead Of Keybindings to Everything
I just did a new installation on a completely new box, and had to configure IDEA from bottom up. On of the things I needed, was to add some keybindings for some features I use all the time. But in the process, I saw something new (to me)–quicklists. In Settings, General chose Keymap. You will then see a two-tabbed pane, where Quicklist is the second tab. Click this tab, and get a view like this:
In the picture above, you can see my quicklist named “Pers Quickies”. You then click the first tab, Keymap, select the Quicklist named “Pers Quickies” and assign a keybinding to it. Acknowledge your way out of all the dialogs and try out the keybinding right away. You will get a nice popup like this:
And you can the use the arrow keys or simply type the number next to each action, to select it. One small feature I did not know about, but which helps me know.

there are still things I discover within Idea and then I hear those already existed for like 2 versions or so.
That’s funny, I just blogged about this (along with a bunch of other IntelliJ IDEA items of interest): http://tedyoung.blogsome.com/2008/02/21/intellij-idea-tip-quick-lists/. I’ve been using the Quick lists for a while and it’s much nicer than digging into nested menus.
